Crush the Box

Change has marked this year with unexpected transitions and new beginnings that could have shaken our faith. Yet through it all, one truth emerges: God refuses to be confined to our expectations.

We often limit God by insisting He work within our timeline, methods, and comfort zones, essentially putting Him in a box based on our incomplete understanding. Isaiah 55:8 reminds us that God's thoughts and ways are not ours.

The root issue is that we often try to play God ourselves, putting our limited understanding in control when we should trust completely. Proverbs 3:5-6 calls us to trust with all our heart, not lean on our own understanding. When we box God in, we stop trusting Him and fall behind His plan, even though He is always working for our good according to Romans 8:28.

Just as we limit God, we also put people in boxes based on assumptions and incomplete knowledge. Jesus consistently operated outside cultural norms, ministering to outcasts, healing the unclean, and demonstrating radical inclusion.

The story of Zacchaeus illustrates how labels become boxes that imprison us, but Jesus recognized him and called him out of hiding. Transformation means unboxing ourselves from limiting labels and old narratives. Christ came to offer abundant life, not limited existence, and we must replace assumptions with curiosity, excuses with obedience, and self-imposed limitations with true freedom.
