If God Has Been Good...

God is good. All the time. It is one of the most familiar phrases in Christian culture, but familiarity can be dangerous. When a phrase becomes a reflex, it stops being a reflection. The real question is not whether God is good. He is. The question is whether His goodness is actually transforming the way you live, the choices you make, the relationships you keep, and the person you are becoming. Saying the right things without living the right life is just noise.

In John chapter 4, Jesus made a deliberate choice to travel through Samaria and met a woman at a well with a complicated past. He did not shame her. He revealed Himself to her, and that one encounter changed everything. She left her water jug and ran back to her village, telling everyone what had happened. An entire town came out to meet Jesus because one woman could not contain what she had experienced. She did not just receive a testimony. She became one. That is what God's goodness is designed to do. It is not meant to stop with you. It is meant to move through you into the lives of everyone around you.

Romans 2:4 makes it clear that God's kindness has a purpose. It is meant to lead us toward repentance and back to Him. King David understood this deeply. In Psalm 116, he did not just declare that God is good. He asked what he could give back in return. God's goodness provoked a response from his life, not just his lips. If God has truly been good to you, there should be evidence of it, not just on Sundays, but on every ordinary day of the week. His goodness should change your devotion, your worship, your relationships, your generosity, the way you serve, your convictions, and your choices. People who never forget where God found them never stop praising where He brought them.
